This is where my 5-star review drops to 1 star. I still believe the dentists at this clinic are skilled and capable. My issue is not with their ability, but with how the clinic is run. In my opinion, the problem is overbooking and a strong focus on billing. I’ve been here many times, and it’s not uncommon for a 3-hour appointment to stretch into 5+ hours. This has happened specially during my last two visits. The reason seems clear: the dentist is constantly moving between rooms due to overbooking. On my second-to-last visit, I opted for nitrous oxide (which is billed based on usage time). I was left waiting for about 40 minutes while still under nitrous because my dentist was pulled away to assist another dentist with identifying a root canal. I was essentially sitting there, unattended, while being charged. That appointment ended up lasting over 5 hours. During that same visit, some procedures were done by an RDA without the dentist present. For a crown, the molding, scanning, and temporary crown were all handled by the assistant. At one point, the mold got stuck on my tooth and the RDA struggled to remove it, pulling quite hard until the dentist finally came in to help. That experience was uncomfortable and concerning. Until today, I wasn’t planning to change my review. What made me decide to update it was the way my cancellation was handled. I received the following message: “As mentioned on the phone, our cancellation policy requires at least 48 hours’ notice… a $100 cancellation fee will apply…” The issue is that when I called to cancel, I did so before 24 hours, after not getting a response via text (which they frequently use and had read). During the call, I was told that although the policy is 48 hours, “but it’s okay.” Based on that, I believed the cancellation would not be an issue. I’ve been a regular patient here for years and this was my first time cancelling. Around the same time, I had also requested copies of my X-rays (which I’ve had more of here than at any other clinic). The reason I asked is because I’ve been increasingly frustrated with my experience. This appointment was originally booked because I was feeling pain and pressure around two crowns and a recent root canal done here about a month ago. Instead of starting by checking the recent work, I received a call saying: “We saw your last X-ray and you have a large filling on tooth 24 that may need a root canal. We’ll test it when you come in.” I already knew the pain wasn’t coming from that tooth. What frustrated me most was the immediate jump to more procedures, more tests, and more X-rays, instead of first evaluating the work that was recently done. Overall, this feels less like patient care and more like a system focused on maximizing bookings and charges. That’s why I can no longer recommend this clinic.

I had not been to the dentist in over 5 years due to anxiety and fear. I went to McCall as they offered sedation dentistry and am so glad I did!! In the initial assessment Dr.Tomio was extremely understanding and provided me different options with lots of information. I ended up doing the nitrous, which allowed me to drive after. At no point was he condescending or tried to tell me my fears weren’t real (as I had experienced in the past with other dentists). The entire process was as absolutely fantastic!! My fears were extremely well managed. The cleaning went smoothly and the staff were very helpful with direct billing. On top of it all Dr.Tomio provided amazing education on how to better brush to preserve my gums and reduce sensitivity.
