Do you have a fear of going to the dentist? Do you find it hard to sit still? Maybe you have an overactive gag reflex. There’s no need to worry; all these issues can be addressed through sedation dentistry. It is a safe and effective way to provide comfort, relaxation, and an amnesiac effect during dental treatment.
At McCall Dental, we believe that all our patients should be kept as comfortable as possible, and our staff will do their utmost to ensure that this happens whenever you come in. Don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions about sedation dentistry.
Types of Sedation Dentistry
- Nitrous oxide sedation.
The colloquial term for nitrous oxide sedation is “laughing gas.” You’ll inhale this through a mask that covers your nose and mouth. It works very quickly and wears off just as fast. You won’t fall asleep, and you’ll be able to respond to your dentist if need be. - Oral sedation.
As the name illustrates, oral sedation involves swallowing a pill that contains the sedative medication at least one hour before your appointment. Oral sedation provides light to moderate sedation for anxious patients. While under sedation, you will be in a deeply relaxed state and will be responsive when spoken to. Your vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure while the dentist completes their work.
